Introducing the concept of the Ingane Yami Children’s Village to the staff at our Resort was a very moving and exciting time. Once we had explained the vision of Ingane Yami - that it is not just about giving money, but about raising up leaders for the future of Africa, the initiative was received into the hearts of the staff and we received their total acceptance; making buy in by the organisations that subsequently came on board so much easier.
We have now divided our Resort fund raising efforts into two main categories–special monthly events and ongoing, weekly fund raising.
The special events have and will include Golf Days, a Hair and Fashion Show, Marathon running and a 10 kilometre swim. We have also taken part in the sponsored climbing of Kilimanjaro and held a fundraising Dinner with live music.
Weekly events include Celebrity Chef competitions, staff versus guest swimming competitions, pasta and pancake eating competitions and Lotto Ball, where the ticket fees are split with Ingane Yami.
We have found that our staff have not only welcomed these events; they have also found some fulfilment in being able to participate and therefore to contribute in giving something back.
It is our intention to raise sufficient funds to build one house and we as a resort would then look to fund the ongoing needs of that house ,thus building a relationship with the children themselves .Our heart ultimately is for some staff to visit the village.
