Taryn Swadling – committed to finishing The Thomas More Big Walk

My story started when I went to the Watoto conference in Uganda in 2008, at the time I knew I had to go only I felt that I was way out of my depth. Orphans, HIV and AIDS... were topics of conversation I always heard, but never really had leverage to talk about, since I knew so little about it and I was so close minded. But as I heard the stories and listened to the orphans, and learned more of the truth of the effects of HIV and AIDS, I realised I had a part to play, only how? "Making a difference" to me sounded way out there and so good...but involved someone else and not me. As God deposited in me awareness for what is a very devastating but severe reality in South Africa, I knew I couldn't do everything but I could do something!

On the 13th March 2010 I will be taking part in the Thomas Moore Long Walk - it’s the first time I will be doing anything of this nature – an 80km route which starts in Kloof at the school grounds and winds all the way to Summerveld…..it’s long but it will be worth it. My goal is to raise R10 000 for Restoration of Hope Ministries and for Ingane Yami Children's village. I personally may not have the financial resources to contribute to this capacity, but what I do have I will use, I have legs and I will walk. My motivation is fuelled by the fact that I'm part of the problem, should I choose to nothing about it. I look forward to seeing the change and to know i was part of it.
