Finances
Fundraising to date

From the inception of the organisation until 31 December 2009, R 3,389,114 in seed donations have been provided. A further R 720,000 has been pledged and will be received in the first quarter of 2010. Monthly pledges into the future have also been made.

This will provide us with total funding of R 4,109,114 to date which has already allowed us to complete phase 1 (purchase of the land) and will allow us to complete phase 2 (Earthworks and Civils) of the village. We are currently in the process of fundraising for the remaining capital that is required to complete phase 3 (cluster of first five homes and ancillary buildings).

The running expenses of the Village have to date been financed by interest income and as at 31 December 2009 we are reflecting an operating surplus of R 87 364. This means that all donations received to date have been able to be allocated to the capital expenditure programme.

The completion of Phase 3 requires an extensive fundraising programme. This will be done at both a corporate and individual level and is currently in the development stage. As noted earlier the extent of the building programme proposed in phase 3 will be largely dependant on the speed at which the fundraising programme gains momentum.

Capital Expenditure Programme

The Capital expenditure programme for the village is broken down into 4 main phases;

Phase Cost Status
1. Purchase and rezoning of land R 1,279,964 Complete
2. Earthworks and Civils R 2,470,000 Fundraising complete / Earthworks underway
3. Cluster of first 5 homes plus key ancillary buildings R 4,557,477 Fundraising underway
4. Building of remaining 4 clusters of 5 homes R 5,860,500
TOTAL ESTIMATED CAPTIAL EXPENDITURE R 14,167,941

The cost of supply of electricity and the furnishing costs of the buildings has yet to be determined and are not included in these figures.
Discussion is also underway as to the timing of the construction of the various buildings in phase 3, as some of these buildings will not be required in the initial period of the village’s life. Cash flow will also be a determinant in the phasing of the construction work.

Progress
The project management team is in the final stage of the process of getting the 30 acres of agricultural land rezoned. This process is expected to be complete by the end of May 2010. Earthworks will begin in mid May 2010, with the construction work following 3 months later. A full tender process was followed, and the contract for the earthworks was awarded to Inhlanhla Civils, and the construction contract was awarded to Brayshay Construction.
