Our mission is to build a village where orphaned and abandoned children will receive holistic, long-term care. The Village is designed in the form of a vibrant community that consists of individual homes where children are placed into a family environment.
The Village is being built on 30 acres of land situated in KwaZulu Natal, in the Shongweni Valley area (approximately 45 km from Durban City centre) and has great accessibility and proximity to the communities that are situated close by. It is lush in natural vegetation, providing freedom and space for children to grow and explore the naturally beautiful environment within the boundaries of the secure village.
The building of the Village will be completed in phases, with the first phase of earthworks and construction to commence in September 2010. This initial phase will include the completion of the Church / Community hall, the sports field and the first cluster of five homes.
The village has been designed so that the individual houses are grouped together in clusters of 5 to form small communities within the greater village. This has been done in order to foster a greater sense of belonging; allowing families within clusters to share experiences and support one another.
Each individual home 3 bedrooms, one for the mother and two for the children. The house has been designed to incorporate a communal area with a dining and lounge space. The dining area is an important tool in the creation of a family environment.
The village is part of a larger community and therefore it is important that the location, design and every other aspect reflect that of the surrounding community. In order for the village to fulfill its mandate of transformation and upliftment, it is essential to encourage participation from the surrounding community.
