Two Schools, One Heart

Brett Udal, the Music Director at Hilton College, had it on his heart in 2017 to use what he had in his hands, a talent and love for music, to make a difference to Ingane Yami Children’s Village.

Three years and two successful events later, Brett decided to collaborate his efforts with Lindy van der Meulen and the St Marys DSG Music Department, taking their annual “Two Schools” concert and transforming it into a concert with a social impact focus!

The connection with St Marys was the obvious next step, as St Mary’s has also been so involved in the life of the village through Tracy Kirsten and the Grade 8’s as well as Grade 11 student Savannah Scoular who has taught Marimbas to our Ingane Yami children for the past two years.

The event was held on Wednesday, 22 May at St Marys DSG. A packed hall was treated to the incredible sounds of the Hilton College and St Mary DSG musicians – featuring a wide array of talented soloists, choirs, orchestras and marimba bands. The Ingane Yami children also surprised the audience, as they performed a number on the Marimbas!
